When deciding to upgrade my website, I thought some of the iconic scenes of Australia should be included.
Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is a massive sandstone monolith, 863m high, in the heart of the Northern Territory’s arid "Red Centre". Uluru is sacred to indigenous Australians and is thought to have started forming around 550 million years ago. It’s within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru has a rich geological history but also a rich cultural history. The monolith is a holy place for the Anangu tribe, who have been in the area for around 10,000 years.

I took these photos on a trip a few years ago. Unfortunately photos do not capture the true size and aura of this special place.
Australia has more camels than any country in the world. In years past camels were imported and used as the main transport to supply outposts in anyone of the five deserts. With the arrival of roads and trucks, camels were no longer needed. The government decreed that the herders shot the camels. Many had had the same camels for over 25 years. They defied the directive and set the camels free. It is now estimated there are over one million feral camels in the country.
